What Training Does a Service Dog Need?

Harmoni Dog Training offers a 36-week program to help you train your dog to become a service dog. The program includes four levels of training, including two advanced levels. You may take these courses separately, or, enroll in the complete program for a significant cost savings.

Harmonious Fundamentals This program is designed to teach your dog the basics every dog and owner should know. We focus on critical skills and help you teach your dog to respond to commands the first time, every time you ask them to do something. 10 sessions.

Intermediate Canine Good Citizen Training this course is geared toward helping you and your dog pass the AKC's Canine Good Citizen certification test. Every dog interested in becoming a service, support or therapy dog should have the CGC credential. 6 sessions.

ADI Public Access Training is a course developed cspecifically for service dogs. It will help you and your dog pass the Assistance Dogs International Public Access Test, the international standard for service dogs. This test, which we administer before endorsing you as a service dog team, requires that your dog navigate a high-distraction environment and behave calmly in public, while demonstrating proficiency in the required skills.Program length: 10 sessions.

Service Dog Task Training Tasks are specific actions taught to service dogs, which help a person with a disability or disorder to function better or more independently. Tasks are the key part of a service dog's job. Typically, we require ten sessions to teach one-two service dog tasks. tasks. 10 sessions.

In addition to these four levels of training, we strongly encourage owners with puppies under six months to complete our Harmonious Puppy Training program prior to beginning the basic training class. This will help your puppy become socialized at a critical early age.
